Who we are

DoorLetter is a service of:

DoorLetterKvK 81277202hello@doorletter.com

You can reach us at hello@doorletter.com or through the contact form.

What these terms cover

These terms apply to everyone who uses DoorLetter: whoever sends a letter (the sender) and whoever receives one and uses the inbox (the owner). They cover use of the site and everything you buy from us. Before you buy anything, we ask you to accept them. A purchase is governed by the version in force when you paid.

What DoorLetter does

With DoorLetter you write a personal letter to the owner of a home you would like to live in, also when it is not for sale. We print the letter and have it delivered by PostNL, through our print partner. The letter carries a code the owner uses to read it on doorletter.nl and reply anonymously.

If the home already has an inbox at DoorLetter, we deliver your letter there and email the owner that it has arrived, instead of printing it. That counts as one letter.

DoorLetter is not an estate agent and does not broker the sale. We cannot promise that an owner replies, that a home comes up for sale, or that a purchase follows.

Who may use DoorLetter

You are 18 or older. If you write professionally, for example as a buying agent for a client, you say so in the letter: the owner must know who is writing and for whom. The rules that only apply to consumers, such as the cooling-off period, then do not apply to you.

What a letter may contain

  • You say honestly who you are and why you are writing. You do not pretend to be someone else.
  • No pressure, intimidation or threats, and no discriminatory language.
  • No advertising unrelated to looking for a home, and no canvassing for listings.
  • No unlawful content, and no personal data of anyone other than you and your household.
  • A letter to a whole street is still written as yourself, with a real reason to want to live there.
  • You do not use scripts or scrapers on the site.

You are responsible for what you write. If someone holds DoorLetter liable for a letter that breaks these rules, you bear the consequences.

The check before a letter goes out

Before we print or deliver a letter, an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic) reads it for content that is not allowed. If it rejects a letter, we do not send it and nothing is charged. You see why and can change the letter. If you think a letter was stopped wrongly, email us and Jiri will look at it himself. If a letter cannot be checked for a moment, we do not send it and nothing is charged; try again in a few minutes.

Your account

You give us accurate details and keep your login to yourself. If something happens in your account that you did not do, tell us straight away. You can always delete your account yourself in your settings.

Prices and payment

Prices are on the pricing page and in the checkout. Those are the amounts you pay, including VAT where it applies, with no extra charges. You pay in advance, through Stripe. After every payment you get a confirmation by email.

Letters, credit and the free letter

  • A pack you buy sits on your account as credit. One letter costs one credit, whether it is printed or delivered to an inbox.
  • Credit does not expire. It is personal and cannot be exchanged for money, except on withdrawal (below) or if DoorLetter stops: we then refund unused credit.
  • Your first letter is free: one per sender, after you confirm your email address. If we see someone using several addresses to get more free letters, we do not send them.
  • Inviting friends: when someone who came through your link buys letters for the first time, you each get one letter of credit. Once per friend, and not for yourself through a second account.

For owners

Reading, keeping and answering letters and unsubscribing are free. You open your inbox with the code from the letter and the postcode of the home. You can also buy a buyer's contact details, or those of every buyer who writes to you, and make your home visible for 30 days to buyers looking in your area. Visibility stops by itself after 30 days. You see the price before you pay.

You use a buyer's contact details only to talk with that buyer about your home. You do not share them with others.

Cooling-off period and withdrawal

If you buy as a consumer, you have 14 days to change your mind, from the day of purchase. You do not have to say why you withdraw. Per kind of purchase:

  • Letters. At checkout you ask us to start right away. If you withdraw within 14 days, you get the money back for the letters you have not sent. Letters already sent are paid for in proportion to what you paid: for 10 letters at €24.99 that is €2.50 per letter sent. A letter that has gone out cannot be recalled.
  • A buyer's contact details. At checkout you ask us to show the details right away, and confirm you know that you lose your right of withdrawal by doing so. Once you have seen the details, you can no longer withdraw this purchase.
  • Visibility. At checkout you ask us to start right away. If you withdraw within 14 days, you only pay for the days your home was visible and get the rest back.

To withdraw, use Withdraw a purchase (the link is in your settings, in the inbox and in the confirmation email), the model form below, or an email to hello@doorletter.com. You get an acknowledgement straight away. We refund within 14 days of your withdrawal, to the payment method you used, at no cost.

If something goes wrong

If a letter does not arrive through a mistake of ours or our print partner, we send it again or put the credit back, whichever you prefer. A letter that was delivered but that the owner does not read or answer has been delivered.

Send a complaint to hello@doorletter.com. You get a proper answer within 14 days. If we cannot work it out together, you can go to court (see below).

Liability

We do our best to keep DoorLetter working well, but we do not promise that the site is always available or that address data is always correct. If we are liable for damage, that liability is limited to the amount you paid DoorLetter in the 12 months before, and does not cover indirect damage such as missed opportunities. This limit does not apply in case of intent or deliberate recklessness on DoorLetter's part, nor where the law does not allow it.

What belongs to whom

The site, its texts and DoorLetter's design are ours. What you write stays yours. You allow us to print it, deliver it and show it in the owner's inbox.

Stopping and blocking

You can stop at any time. We may block your account if you break these terms, for example with a letter that intimidates or misleads. We then tell you why. If we block you without you having broken the rules, we refund unused credit.

Changes

We sometimes change these terms, for example when the product changes. We email you material changes at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can stop; we then refund unused credit on request. A purchase stays governed by the version in force when you paid.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you keep the protection the law of that country gives you. A dispute goes to the court that has jurisdiction under the law.
