Buying a house in Rotterdam: the neighbourhoods that rarely reach Funda

In Rotterdam a share of the homes change hands without ever being on Funda, above all in the neighbourhoods below. If you want to live there, a personal letter reaches the owners best; each neighbourhood page names the streets people ask about and what the figures say.

Neighbourhoods in Rotterdam

  • Buying a house in Kralingen

Kralingen is to Rotterdam what the Jordaan is to Amsterdam: the neighbourhood everyone names and where almost nothing comes up for sale. The town houses on the avenues around the Kralingse Plas often stay in the same family for decades. When they do change hands, the buyer is usually already known before an estate agent is involved. On Funda you mainly see the flats.

    Avenue Concordia · Voorschoterlaan · Hoflaan · 's-Gravenweg · postcode 3061, 3062

  • Buying a house in Blijdorp

Blijdorp is the neighbourhood in Rotterdam that young families want to move to as soon as the first child arrives, and where they stay as long as the flat allows. Flats do come up for sale, but the spacious corner homes on the Statensingel and the ground-floor flats with a garden rarely appear on Funda. Those go through the stairwell, or to someone who had already come forward.

    Statenweg · Statensingel · Bentincklaan · Stadhoudersweg · postcode 3039, 3038

  • Buying a house in Hillegersberg

Hillegersberg is the neighbourhood Rotterdammers move to when they do not want to leave the city but do want a garden and water. Once people live here, they stay; the houses on the Bergse Plassen pass from parent to child. What does come free is often spoken for before it reaches Funda: to a friend of the family, through an agent who keeps a list, or to someone who once sent a letter.

    Straatweg · Bergse Dorpsstraat · Burgemeester Le Fèvre de Montignylaan · Weissenbruchlaan · postcode 3051, 3054, 3055

  • Buying a house in the Scheepvaartkwartier

The Scheepvaartkwartier is the part of Rotterdam where you can still see what the city looked like before the war, and anyone who has a house here does not give it up in a hurry. The town houses on the quays rarely change hands. When it happens, the buyer is often already known through the owner's network or through an agent who has kept a list for years. What reaches Funda is mainly flats.

    Westerkade · Parkkade · Parklaan · Veerhaven · postcode 3016
